Product Structure

The Brass Female Thread Pipe Plug uses an internal thread to connect with a male-threaded pipe or fitting, providing a practical way to close unused, reserved, or temporarily isolated ports. Brass offers good mechanical strength, corrosion resistance, machinability, and dimensional stability for general piping applications.

Hex-head configurations allow standard wrenches to be used for installation and removal. Depending on the application, PTFE tape or an appropriate thread sealant can be applied to improve sealing performance.

Thread Selection

NINGXING provides NPT, BSPT, BSPP, and other thread configurations for different international piping systems. NPT uses a 60° thread profile, while BSP threads generally use a 55° profile, so these standards should not be considered interchangeable even when the nominal sizes appear similar.

Common sizes include 1/8", 1/4", 3/8", 1/2", 3/4", and 1", while larger and customized sizes can be manufactured according to drawings or technical requirements. Buyers should confirm both the nominal size and thread standard before ordering.

Working Pressure and Temperature

The reference working pressure is up to 1.6 MPa (16 bar), while the reference temperature range is -30℃ to 150℃. These values are intended for preliminary product selection and are not universal ratings for every size or configuration.

The actual allowable pressure and temperature depend on brass grade, product dimensions, thread standard, sealing method, operating medium, and installation conditions. High-pressure, high-temperature, steam, gas, or other safety-critical applications should be confirmed with the supplier before production and installation.

Product Testing

NINGXING can conduct dimensional inspection, thread gauge inspection, appearance inspection, and pressure or leakage testing according to the agreed product specification. Thread gauges are used to verify thread accuracy and compatibility, while pressure testing can help identify leakage or connection defects.

Production is managed under an ISO 9001:2015 quality management system. CE and RoHS compliant options are available for applicable products and markets, while additional testing or inspection documentation can be arranged according to project requirements.

Application Areas

1. Water Piping

The Brass Female Thread Pipe Plug can be used to close unused or reserved threaded outlets in residential, commercial, and industrial water systems. It can also be removed when a new branch connection or fitting is required.

2. HVAC Systems

In HVAC installation and maintenance, threaded ports may need to remain closed during transportation, commissioning, equipment modification, or repair. The brass plug provides a removable sealing solution for compatible connections.

3. Industrial Equipment

Industrial machinery often includes auxiliary ports that are not required for every equipment configuration. A threaded plug can close these openings without welding or permanently changing the equipment structure.

4. Pneumatic Systems

For compatible compressed-air systems, the plug can be used to close threaded ports during equipment assembly, maintenance, or system modification. The actual pressure rating should be confirmed according to the specific configuration.

5. Gas Applications

The plug may be suitable for certain gas applications when the material, thread standard, pressure rating, sealing method, and applicable regulations have been confirmed. Gas applications require project-specific verification and should not be approved solely because the product has CE or RoHS compliance.

Application Examples

1. HVAC Installation

During the installation of a large commercial HVAC project, several threaded ports needed to remain closed before the final connection of equipment. The installation team used 1/4" and 3/8" NPT plugs to protect the open ports from dust and foreign particles. The plugs were removed during final commissioning and replaced with the required fittings.

2. Hydraulic Equipment Maintenance

A machinery manufacturer needed to close an oil-line port while replacing a hydraulic component. A 1/2" BSPT brass plug was installed after the line was isolated and drained. Because the plug could be removed with a standard wrench, the maintenance team completed the repair without permanently modifying the piping connection.

3. Gas Pipeline Testing

During a residential gas pipeline pressure test, threaded terminal ports were temporarily closed with appropriately rated brass plugs. After the test was completed, the plugs were removed for subsequent system connection. The project required the thread standard and pressure rating to be verified before installation.

Installation Guide

Before installation, clean the mating male thread and check that there are no burrs, dirt, damaged threads, or deformation. Apply suitable PTFE tape or thread sealant when required by the application. Start the Brass Female Thread Pipe Plug by hand to ensure correct thread engagement before using a wrench. If abnormal resistance occurs at the beginning of installation, stop and inspect the threads rather than forcing the connection.

After hand tightening, use an appropriate wrench to complete the installation. Excessive torque should be avoided because brass is softer than steel and excessive tightening may damage the threads or deform the plug. After installation, perform the required pressure or leakage test before putting the system into service.

Installation Error Guide

1. Cross-Threading

Cross-threading can occur when the plug is forced into a misaligned or incompatible male thread. If resistance occurs immediately during hand installation, the plug should be removed and the threads inspected. Correct alignment and thread compatibility should be confirmed before reinstalling.

2. Excessive Tightening

Over-tightening may deform the hex head, damage the female thread, or create unnecessary stress in the connection. The plug should be tightened with an appropriate wrench and, where available, according to the recommended installation torque for the specific product.

3. Wrong Thread Standard

A common installation problem is selecting a plug based only on nominal size while ignoring the thread standard. NPT, BSPT, and BSPP have different thread profiles and should be matched according to the actual piping specification.

4. Leakage After Installation

Leakage may result from damaged threads, insufficient sealing material, incorrect thread selection, or inadequate installation. The connection should be depressurized, inspected, cleaned, and resealed before being tested again.

Compliance Notes

RoHS compliance does not equal drinking-water certification. RoHS mainly concerns restrictions on certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic products and does not by itself prove that a brass fitting is approved for potable-water contact. For drinking-water systems, buyers should confirm the specific potable-water certification required in the destination market.

CE and RoHS compliance do not automatically approve the product for gas service. Gas applications require confirmation of the applicable local regulations, material suitability, pressure rating, thread standard, sealing method, and any required gas-related certification. NINGXING can review these requirements before production for regulated applications.

FAQ

Q1: What is the reference working pressure?

The reference working pressure is up to 1.6 MPa (16 bar) for applicable standard configurations. The final pressure rating depends on product size, material, thread type, medium, and installation conditions.

Q2: What is the reference temperature range?

The reference temperature range is -30℃ to 150℃. The actual allowable temperature should be confirmed according to the material grade, pressure, sealing method, and application medium.

Q3: Can it be used for drinking water?

It may be used only when the specific product meets the applicable potable-water requirements. RoHS certification does not mean potable-water approval, so buyers should confirm the required drinking-water certification for their destination market.

Q4: Can it be used for natural gas or LPG?

Potentially, but gas service requires specific technical and regulatory confirmation. The applicable thread standard, pressure rating, material, sealing method, and required gas certification should be checked before use.
